Bank robber hires decoys on Craigslist, fools cops | The Social – CNET News

In an elaborate robbery scheme that’s one part The Thomas Crowne Affair and one part Pineapple Express, a crook robbed an armored truck outside a Bank of America branch in Monroe, Wash., by hiring decoys through Craigslist to deter authorities.

It gets better: He then escaped in a creek headed for the Skykomish River in an inner tube, and the cops are still looking for him. “A great amount of money” was taken, Monroe police said, but did not provide a dollar value.

It appears to have unfolded this way, according to a Seattle-based NBC affiliate: around 11:00 a.m. PDT on Tuesday, the robber, wearing a yellow vest, safety goggles, a blue shirt, and a respirator mask went over to a guard who was overseeing the unloading of cash to the bank from the truck. He sprayed the guard with pepper spray, grabbed his bag of money, and fled the scene.

But here’s the hilarious twist. The robber had previously put out a Craigslist ad for road maintenance workers, promising wages of $28.50 per hour. Recruits were asked to wait near the Bank of America right around the time of the robbery–wearing yellow vests, safety goggles, a respirator mask, and preferably a blue shirt. At least a dozen of them showed up after responding to the Craigslist ad.

“I came across the ad that was for a prevailing wage job for $28.50 an hour,” one of the unwitting decoys, named Mike, said to the NBC station. As it turns out, they were simply placed there to confuse cops who were looking for a guy wearing a virtually identical outfit.

The Cab Ride I’ll Never Forget | Zen Moments

Twenty years ago, I drove a cab for a living.

It was a cowboy’s life, a life for someone who wanted no boss.

What I didn’t realize was that it was also a ministry.

Because I drove the night shift, my cab became a moving confessional. Passengers climbed in, sat behind me in total anonymity, and told me about their lives. I encountered people whose lives amazed me, ennobled me, and made me laugh and weep.

But none touched me more than a woman I picked up late one August night. I was responding to a call from a small brick fourplex in a quiet part of town. I assumed I was being sent to pick up some partyers, or someone who had just had a fight with a lover, or a worker heading to an early shift at some factory for the industrial part of town.

Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling

Beginning Tuesday, September 16, 2008, the City of Bismarck Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Center will open. Bismarck residents will be able to bring household quantities of hazardous waste and electronic equipment to the City of Bismarck’s Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Center. “The citizens of Bismarck have shown a great deal of interest and participation in our past annual household hazardous waste roundups and we are delighted to now offer household hazardous waste disposal and electronics recycling all year long”, said Jeff Heintz, Director, Public Works Service Operations. “Bringing these items to the Center for disposal and recycling keeps them out of the landfill, protects the environment, and conserves landfill space”, said Heintz.

Beginning September 16, 2008, the Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Center located at the Bismarck City Landfill, 2111 North 52nd Street, will be open Tuesday and Thursday, and the first and third Saturday of each month, from 9 AM to 2 PM. Household hazardous waste disposal and electronics recycling is free of charge for Bismarck residents. Non-residents can drop off material for a fee.

Citizens bringing items to the Center are asked to stop at the Scale House for disposal procedures. Identification is required when dropping off items. The City of Bismarck reserves the right to reject any waste. Household quantities of hazardous material like oil, paint, weed killer and other chemicals can be brought to the Center. Please leave the materials in their original containers if possible and transport them in a plastic, trash-bag lined, cardboard box to protect from leaking.

“From the interest that citizens have shown about the Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Center we expect a lot of traffic when the Center opens”, said Galen Bren, City Recycling Specialist. “We ask citizens for their patience as we begin this important service and that they recognize that this service is now being offered year round”, said Bren. For more information visit Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling or call 701-355-1700.

List of problems solved by MacGyver – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a list of problems that have been solved by the fictional character MacGyver from the television series of the same name. (This list is not yet comprehensive.) MacGyver employs his resourcefulness and his knowledge of chemistry, physics,[1] technology, and outdoorsmanship to resolve what are often life or death crises. He spontaneously creates inventions from simple items to solve these problems. These inventions became synonymous with the character and were called MacGyverisms by fans.[2] MacGyverisms became a distinct motif of the series. MacGyver was unlike secret agents in other television series and films because he carried only a Swiss Army knife and duct tape, instead of relying on high-tech weapons and tools.
