Yesterday and the day before our guys were working on getting the pool opened for the year. I can’t believe they actually worked all day in the pouring rain. (We got like 3 inches over the last few days)
Anyway the pool is up and running and we are just waiting for it to quit raining so we can adjust the chemical levels and get it warmed up for use….
I’m thinking it will be mid-June before we take the first swim, but it all depends on the weather…
If you haven’t already noticed, there is a link below each post asking for you, my faithful readers, to buy me a beer.
I’m going to step this up a notch and turn it into a contest where you can win money!
Who doesn’t like free money?!
Here are the rules:
1) Buy me a beer using the link (at least a $3 donation to enter the contest) between now and July 1st.
2) That’s it!
Of the beer money that is pledged, I will give back 50% to one lucky beer buyer through a random selection.
Why not the whole 100%? Well because PayPal takes a cut and so does Uncle Sam on any income I make and I wouldn’t mind having a frosty beer or two…
So go ahead and get buying!
If you buy me more than one beer you get entered for each one!
Pretty neat comparison of now versus then with minimum wage put into the equation.

Some things are actually cheaper now…

Hi there,
I’m seeking a like-minded woman to share a disastrous 3-9 month
relationship with, ending in acrimony, emotional chaos, and possibly
legal proceedings.
My name is Lloyd, I live in Chicago , I’m 27 years old, fairly well
educated, I hold down a good job and am pretty stable. I’m told I’m
fairly good looking, but I’ll let you be the judge of that – I’m
generally caring and very honest.
Looks like I was pointing fingers at a broken WordPress when it turned out to be an old version of mySQL causing the problems.
I moved the site to a new server with mySQL 5+ and now everything seems to be working again.
The posts I was talking about that should have went live when I was camping are now live and can be found below.
It looks as though my scheduled posts never made it to the homepage while I was gone.
I will be reposting them soon…
Well we pulled off another miserable Memorial Day Weekend.
I say this only because with the wind and rain it resulted in sub-freezing temperatures for most of our adventure.
And to top it all off, on Saturday morning we were greeted with the ground covered in snow from the previous night.
It actually did improve though, the day we came home…

Looks like some people have come up with a way to save some minutes by using Grand Central. (a free switchboard phone service)
I doubt this loophole will exist for long.
I remember back in high school, the cell phone companies came out with plans for unlimited incoming calls. This was in the days before text messaging, but every friend that had a plan like that would call you and then tell you to call them right back. (Back then I think your first minute was also free)
Looks like things haven’t changed much, if there is a loophole people will exploit it…
Here’s the story of how scientists unlocked the secrets of the worst natural disaster in the history of the West African nation of Cameroon… and what they’re doing to try and stop it from happening again. (More below the break)
On the morning of August 22, 1986, a man hopped onto his bicycle and began riding from Wum, a village in Cameroon, towards the village of Nyos. On the way he noticed an antelope lying dead next to the road. Why let it go to waste? The man tied the antelope onto his bicycle and continued on. A short distance later he noticed two dead rats, and further on, a dead dog and other dead animals. He wondered if they’d all been killed by a lightening strike – when lightening hits the ground it’s not unusual for animals nearby to be killed by the shock.
Soon the man came upon a group of huts. He decided to see if anyone there knew what had happened to the animals. But as he walked up to the huts he was stunned to see dead bodies strewn everywhere. He didn’t find a single person still alive—everyone in the huts was dead. The man threw down his bicycle and ran all the way back to Wum.
