I really need to close some of my checking accounts. I think I’m up to 5 already.
I accumulated them while growing up and moving from bank to bank without every closing the last. One account I moved on because they sent me a letter by mistake, telling me they were going to start charging my “student” account unless I carried a minimum balance.
I switched banks the next day, after finding out the letter was a mistake. My rationale was that if they could mess up something like that why should they control my finances? Yeah, I was a hard a** even at a young age.
Anyway, I never did close that account. There has been $7.47 in that account since the day I switched, after writing a couple of checks to draw it to near zero…
I just figured it out that was 10 years ago. They have been sending me a bank statement every month since then. That’s 120 bank statements that cost them postage every time. I know they probably get a bulk mail discount but it has to at least cost them 20 cents a statement. That’s $24 in postage over the years plus administration costs, whatever that might be.
Point is, businesses should always do their best to retain customers otherwise their clients become a liability as in this case.
Why is customer service so hard these days?

Over the next few weeks we will start that yearly task of getting rid of extra stuff that’s been sitting around the house and not being used anymore.
Some of it is garbage, other stuff will be posted on bismanonline.com to hopefully sell.
You, my friend, will get a sneak peak at some of the items and a chance to buy them before they are listed.
Here is a sneak peak of things to come:
If you are interested in anything above send me an email (address to your right), no calls please. Pickup only, I will not ship.
Anything not sold beforehand will be listed on bismanonline this weekend.
